SURF, YOGA & FITNESS RETREAT                                                            August 4 – August 11, 2018

Your Surf, Yoga & Fitness Retreat begins in the capital city of San Jose. You and the small group on this retreat will be picked up at the Juan Santamaria International airport and taken by shuttle to your hotel Barceló San José Palacio. You’ll spend two nights in San Jose getting acclimated to Costa Rica by participating in activities in the Central Valley area. On your third day of the retreat, you will take a chartered flight to Golfito and be transported to Pavones!

You will enjoy this well-deserved break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life in the pristine, remote, surfing mecca  on the South Pacific Costa, Pavones. You’ll get back to enjoying the smallest of life’s treasures and utilize your hard earned strength and fitness in new ways!

Join Fitness coach and adventure guide Ewunike on this 8 day, 7 night active adventure on the Southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Your fitness retreat includes surfing, yoga, hiking, waterfall exploration and fitness classes. Once you are in Costa Rica, your ground transportation and round trip airfare to Pavones from San Jose are included, as well as many other trip amenities. It is finally your time to unwind and enjoy your retreat.

Baggage Allowance per Person

1 Piece with maximum weight of 40 lbs and up to 50 linear inches / 127 cm. (length + height + width).

You may bring 1 piece of carry-on luggage with a maximum weight of 10 lbs, 33 linear inches / 84 cm (length + height + width).

Any luggage exceeding weight allowance and/or size will be subject to space availability and charged according to the following excess luggage fees: 1-5 lbs = $7 / 6-15 lbs =$20 / 16-30 lbs = $40 / 31-60 lbs = $60

ACCOMMODATIONS

Our first two nights will be in San Jose at the Barcelo Hotel & Resort.  The hotel features three restaurants, two outdoor swimming pools, a fitness center, a tennis court, and acres of quiet gardens.

On day 3 the group will travel via air from San Jose to Pavones. In Pavones, we will be staying at La Ponderosa Beach & Jungle Resort. This small, family-owned, boutique retreat center provides spacious comfortable rooms, beautiful grounds with trails and gardens, healthy and fresh meals, a pool and beach access to refresh and unwind. The individual, spacious cottages sleep 2-4 people, and are just steps from the pristine beach, relaxing swimming pool, and half a mile from Shooting Star Yoga Studio.

Also on the property are hiking trails, volleyball court, basketball courts, and massage services (extra cost). Each day, three healthy meals are made fresh for you from local ingredients. The town of Pavones is very remote and boasts a population of just a couple hundred residents.  The town comes to life every day at dawn when people take advantage of the natural beauty the location has to offer.

ITINERARY

Day 1:

Day 2:

Day 3:

Meet Ewunike Your Guide & Fitness Coach

After participating in the 330 mile AIDS Bike Ride from Raleigh, NC to Washington, D.C. in 1999, Ewunike Akpan was hooked on helping people experience the benefits of exercise. To prepare for the ride, she trained for six months with a group and, along the way, learned the importance of proper muscular development and nutrition to help her successfully complete the three day event. She shared information with her fellow riders and started leading them in weight training sessions to strengthen their core and upper body muscles. The group gave Ewunike positive feedback about the effectiveness of  the workouts she developed. This fueled her decision to study for and get certified as a professional personal trainer with the American Council on Exercise (ACE).

Ewunike’s 17-year journey as a trainer started as a way to help herself and others for one fitness event. Today, it is her passion and she is using it to help hundreds of clients experience the benefits of an active lifestyle. Ewunike and her business, LOTUS Fitness, have been featured in Essence, Heart & Soul, ACE Professionals Profile (online), ACE Advocacy (online) and on NBC4 News,Washington, D.C.

Meet Amy Your Surf & Yoga Instructor

Amy Khoo was born in Toronto, Canada. Her love of nature and active outdoor life led her to Costa Rica’s Southern Pacific Gulfo Dulce in 1991. Living in the surf town Pavones with her husband, Alexander Outerbridge, they owned and operated Seakings Surf shop, and built Shooting Star Studio where she practices and teaches her passion – Yoga.

Amy has been practicing yoga since 1990 and in the last 14 years her disciplined studies began through Bikram then Ashtanga.

As well as loving teaching yoga and surfing, she offers massage and leads jungle adventure tours with delight. She enjoys immensly spearfishing, diving, swimming, rock climbing, hiking, biking, drumming, dancing, remote waterfalls and chocolate making parties!
